GRI (formerly the Global Reporting Initiative) is an international multi-stakeholder organisation based in Amsterdam. It is focussed on promoting sustainability reporting by a wide range of organisations including businesses, governments and not-for-profit organisations.

Corporate Register has the largest global database of reports using GRI frameworks and standards.

GRI issued a preliminary reporting framework in 2002 and a more developed ‘G3’ framework in October 2006. We group these two frameworks together.

In May 2013 the ‘G3’ reporting framework was updated to ‘G4’ which we feature separately. Reporters continue to use the G4 reporting framework.

In October 2016 GRI issued a series of Reporting Standards, planned to supercede the G4 framework. The first reports using the Standards were issued in 2017.
